Where to Propose in Charleston, South Carolina
Charleston, South Carolina, is one of the oldest cities in the country (founded in 1670!) and is full of romantic Southern charm. Spanish moss hangs from old oak trees, the historic architecture is remarkably well preserved, and the city has a laid-back feel that encourages you to take your time as you stroll through the town. If you’re ready to propose, Charleston has plenty of memorable settings for your big moment! Here are 5 of our favorite proposal locations in Charleston, SC:
1. White Point Gardens (a.k.a. Battery Park)
One of the most picturesque destinations in Charleston is White Point Gardens. Enjoy 360 degree views of the two rivers (the Ashley and Cooper Rivers) and their bridges, as well as the beautiful old buildings in town. The wooden swings at Charleston Waterfront Park are the perfect spot to take your lady’s hand as the sun sets, share a heartfelt proposal, and slide a diamond engagement ring onto her finger! Also, the lovely gazebo is like something out of a Nicholas Sparks movie (very romantic)!
2. In a classy restaurant
- McCrady’s Restaurant :If your sweetheart enjoys farm-to-table dining, she’ll love McCrady’s. James Beard Award-winning chef Sean Brock sources ingredients from local farmers, and its menus change daily. Top-notch sommeliers will recommend the best pairings with your food. User reviews rave, “This food is art,” and “One of the best meals I have ever had.” Between the romantic ambience and the beautiful presentation, this will be a meal you won’t forget.
- Fig: Like McCrady’s, Fig (short for “Food Is Good”) makes use of the freshest local ingredients to create its menu. As its website describes it, “Laid-back, eclectic, and unpretentious, Fig is one part retro diner, one part neighborhood cafe, and one part elegant bistro.” Soft lighting and a welcoming staff encourage you to settle in and relax. Foodies will be enchanted by fresh, creative seafood dishes like Mustard Crusted Grouper with Tomato Ragout. Order a glass of champagne to cap off your meal, and pop the question with a gorgeous diamond cluster ring!
3. At The Beach
There is nothing like a day spent at the beach with the love of your life! Enjoy a day of sand and sun, and when the time is right, bring out the little red ring box you have been hiding, and propose! Here are a few beaches in Charleston, SC that we recommend:
- Isle of Palms
- Sullivans Island
- Folly Beach
4. Water Front Park
Sitting on the Swings on the pier of Water Front Park is a truly peaceful experience. Look out at the coast line and feel the refreshing ocean breeze as you and your partner snuggle up on the swing. Though there are people walking by, this is a good choice for an intimate proposal.

The swings at Waterfront Park are one of my favorite places to sit and look out over the water. Definitely the perfect place for Lily and Luke to cozy up on their winter wedding day for photos! Also, how gorgeous is Lily? She had the most amazing 1940s bridal look, and I love that she wore her grandmother Lillian’s fur coat on her wedding day!
The Pineapple Fountain is a magical backdrop for a memorable wedding proposal. While walking along the pier, make sure to stop by the Pineapple Fountain, and get your camera ready! The diamond engagement ring will sparkle like the magical water fountain in the background as you open the little red ring box. A moment you won’t soon forget!
