Tips for Planning a Wedding Last Minute: Little Details, Part 2

02C84470As your wedding day approaches, there are a thousand little details competing for your attention. If you are planning a wedding on a short timeline, these details can seem magnified and overwhelming, but don’t despair! We’ve got you covered on: picking a venue, making a selection from gorgeous gold wedding ring sets, finding a dress and starting to narrow down all these last-minute details.

With a few meticulous lists and some help from friends and family, you’ll have it all under control so you can enjoy your beautiful day.

1. Get your marriage license.

Oh that tiny thing? You’d be surprised how easy it is to forget about the legal piece of your wedding slip your mind! Each state has different rules, requirements and waiting periods, so look these up well in advance. For example, when my husband and I got married in Louisiana, I had to order a certified copy of my birth certificate from the county where I was born in California, which took weeks. Call the office in advance to make sure you have everything you need.

2. Make a master wedding-day agenda. 

A general rule of thumb is that everything will take a little longer than you think it will when planning a wedding. Ask all of your vendors what timeframes they recommend, as they have valuable expertise to draw from. Think five women can get hair and make-up done in two hours? Think again! Add in some buffer time for each step to cut down on frantic rushing. Write up an agenda and email and print out copies for everyone who is part of the wedding. Have your coordinator (or whichever trusted person you designate taskmaster) keep each step running smoothly.

3. Make a list of items that need to go to the venue or hotel

It’s best to work on this list over the course of a few days, as you will remember little things as you go. Keep a notebook or phone app handy to jot items down as you think of them. Categorize items by steps in the agenda and/or venue, and make note of who is responsible for each. For example, the best man may be in charge of getting the gold wedding band sets to the venue, but the maid of honor is responsible for all hair, make-up and clothes items that need to go to the hotel room.

4. Create tip envelopes

This is a detail you could easily overlook during a whirlwind wedding day. Look at your list of vendors, and decide who you want to tip and how much. Put together labeled envelopes sealed with checks for each vendor, and give them to your wedding coordinator or point person. It’s a good idea to set aside a bit of emergency cash and a checkbook for unforeseen circumstances.
