Best Places to Propose in Miami

by Melia Dicker Monday, 13 June 2016 Proposal

From Little Havana to South Beach, Miami is full of life and culture. No matter what type of romantic experience your sweetheart would enjoy, you'll find it here. Pick out a trio ring set and choose where you'll propose.

On the Town

Tonight's the night you ask her to marry you, so give her an evening she'll never forget. At Catharsis in Little Havana, enjoy Latin and Italian dishes and a romantic ambience, with sconces glowing on whitewashed walls. On Saturdays, enjoy live music. If your lady is the adventurous type, keep your eyes out for one of the "Dining in the Dark" events and make a reservation for a dinner that you eat while blindfolded.

Miami is famous for its lively bars and dance clubs. Magnum Lounge takes the energy level down a few notches, creating a softly lit atmosphere. The European style piano bar has the velvet decor of an old-world cabaret, and the outdoor shack bar serves excellent cocktails.

In a Beautiful Garden

Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is the perfect place for a nature-lover. Wind through a two-acre rainforest lush with orchids, palm trees, and waterfalls. Visit the Fairchild Arboretum, which is filled with more than 700 species of tropical flowering trees, as well as gorgeously colorful tropical flowering vines. For a creative proposal, take a walk through the butterfly garden and get down on one knee as butterflies flutter around you and your bride-to-be.

Vizcaya Museum & Gardens was built in the Jazz Age of the early 1900s to be the winter residence of a wealthy American industrialist. It was designed to look like an Italian estate, with surrounding gardens that took seven years to perfect. Enjoy admiring the expensive antiques and furnishings in the 34 decorated rooms. Then enjoy a walk around the lovely gardens and present her with a ring as breathtaking as the backdrop.

On the Water

South Beach is known for its calm, clear blue waters and soft white sand. It's about two miles long, bordered by a boardwalk, perfect for a sunset stroll. If you'd like to plan an extra creative proposal, consider hiring a company like Team Sandtastic to create a sand sculpture that incorporates "Will you marry me?"

South Pointe Park on Miami Beach, set on the outlet of the port of Miami, is a lovely place for a picnic on the shore. If your lady loves the water, take her on an adventure on the deep blue sea. Plan a sunset cruise with a company like Play Time Water Sports, where you can reserve a cozy spot on a catamaran and enjoy an open bar and snacks.

Or go for simple elegance like real-life couple Brian and Nicole. The pair, sweethearts since their freshman year at Kent State University, knew they were meant to be together. Nicole loves the beach, so Brian planned a romantic vacation to Miami with the plan of proposing on the shore. As they were walking on the beach, he dropped to one knee and asked Nicole to marry him with a gorgeous diamond engagement ring.

Best Places to Propose in Chicago

by Melia Dicker Wednesday, 01 June 2016 Proposal

If you're ready to propose, Chicago is a city that's brimming with possible settings for your special moment. The city has made it easy for you to scout out places to propose: It has a great variety of online tours of Chicago, with themes ranging from Parks to Music & Art.

When you've picked out the perfect diamond engagement ring, consider popping the question in one of these romantic places.

Where to Propose in Chicago

Over a romantic dinner or drinks

North Pond is a favorite for many locals and visitors in Chicago. Nestled within Lincoln Park and set beside a pond, the restaurant has a romantic view of the city skyline. The menu at North Pond sources fresh ingredients from local farmers. Splurge on the seasonal tasting menu for your special occasion.

There are few meals more romantic than fondue, and Gejas Cafe doesn't disappoint. Choose from the extensive wine list and enjoy dinner with live flamenco music in the background.

Take her breath away with a view of the Chicago skyline at night from the Signature Lounge on the 96th floor of the John Hancock Center. You'll love the premium martinis and gourmet menu, which will complement her diamond cluster ring perfectly.

On a lighthearted adventure

If your lady loves cheesecake, take her to the famous Eli's Cheesecake for a tasting. If you call ahead and explain that you're ready to propose on-site, you may be able to convince the staff to prepare a couple of slices with "Will You Marry Me?" written on them in icing.

A boat tour of lake Michigan is a beautiful excursion by day or night. There are so many companies and routes to choose from that you're sure to find a trip that she'll love.

Catch an evening comedy show at the renowned Second City, which has graduated performers including Stephen Colbert and Tina Fey. The actors are so accustomed to improvisation that they may enjoy incorporating your proposal into a skit. If you know that your lady will be thrilled by receiving a diamond cluster ring onstage before an audience, then this is the opportunity of a lifetime!

In a beautiful outdoor setting

One of the most popular spots in the city is Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park. The fountain lit up at night is breathtaking.

Millennium Park also offers a number of charming places to propose. Consider a leisurely stroll in Lurie Garden, or visit Cloud Gate, a giant public sculpture nicknamed "The Bean." It reflects the city skyline in its face of polished stainless steel. Stand under the archway of The Bean together when you pop the question. The reflection of the diamond engagement ring in the metal sculpture will dazzle her!

Lincoln Park has many lovely spots for those who are ready to propose. Lincoln Park Zoo is free of charge and open 365 days per year. It features a full calendar of special events, including tours of the beautiful gardens. Take a walk to the Alfred Caldwell Lilly Pool or pack a picnic to enjoy at sunset by Lincoln Park Lagoon and get down on one knee in the grass.

Find a quiet spot by North Pond where you can admire the city skyline, the way Wes did when he proposed to his girlfriend Holly. The two met in a class their senior year of college; Holly fell for Wes’ smile, and Wes loved how Holly could light up a room. He had been running by the same spot in Lincoln Park for the past three years, and he knew he wanted to share this beautiful view with Holly for the rest of his life. He got down on one knee and proposed, and she said yes!

Where to Propose in Kansas City

by Melia Dicker Wednesday, 25 May 2016 Proposal

Kansas City, a metropolitan area on the border of Kansas and Missouri, is known for its barbecue and jazz. It's a favorite destination for hip budget travelers, often ranking on lists like Travel + Leisure's "Most Affordable Getaways" "Best Cities for Foodies."

And while it's not expensive to explore Kansas City, it offers plenty when it comes to romance. Here are a few of the best places to propose in Kansas City:

In an Elegant Restaurant

When one Yelp reviewer posted a question asking her peers for a romantic restaurant recommendation in Kansas City, nearly every reply that she received said, "Le Fou Frog." It's authentically French in the food and the experience, where dinner can stretch out leisurely over a period of hours. The charming waiters will periodically stroll through the restaurant and enthusiastically serenade diners with Broadway show tunes. If asked in advance, they may even sing your sweetheart's favorite song to her and set the stage for you to present her a sparkling diamond engagement ring. Now that's a creative proposal idea!

For New American food, try the popular Bluestem Restaurant. Choose a meal of three, five, or ten (!) courses, and splurge on the wine pairings for your special occasion. A typical dish is diver sea scallop with sweet potato, brussels sprouts, bacon, maple gel, and pretzel salt. It's creative, fresh, and memorable. Diners describe the ambience of this restaurant as cozy, like a large living room, with couches and armchairs pulled up to the tables and dozens of mirrors lining the walls. Make a reservation to ensure that you get a seat.

At a Beautiful Fountain

Kansas City is called "The City of Fountains" because the number of fountains within its limits is second only to Rome. Here's a creative proposal idea: Stop at a fountain to make a wish with your sweetie, then to get down on one knee with a diamond engagement ring and tell her that you wished to spend the rest of your life with her.

Take a look at Kansas City's fountains and choose one that your lady would love. The JC Nichols Memorial Fountain features high arches of water and sculptures of rearing horses, and it's breathtaking when it lights up at night. Behind it sits the Girada Bell Tower, a replica of the Cathedral of Seville in Spain. The Diana Fountain depicts the Roman goddess of the hunt and the moon surrounded by cherubs. It sits in front of one of the largest manmade waterfalls and is encircled by flowers in the spring.

In a Lovely Garden

If your bride-to-be loves the outdoors, take her to one of Kansas City's gardens. Powell Gardens is just outside of Kansas City, in Kingsville, MO, and it will not disappoint. It's open year-round and features a meadow full of wildflowers, a rock and waterfall garden, and a lake full of lily pads. Check the calendar before you plan your visit for events like the summer butterfly festival and cooking demonstrations by local chefs. Cafe Thyme is a wonderful place to eat fresh salads and sandwiches made from produce grown onsite.

Loose Park Rose Garden is stunning when its flowers are blooming. Take your lady for a walk under the trellis-covered walkways and stop in front of the lovely fountain - you'll feel like you're royalty taking a stroll around your chateau. Find a peaceful moment and pop the question in front of the fountain like Robert did with his sweetheart, Kristi.

Best Places to Propose in San Francisco

by Melia Dicker Saturday, 14 May 2016 Proposal

If you're planning a romantic proposal, the possibilities abound in San Francisco. With dozens of well-known landmarks, romantic waterfront destinations, and breathtaking views, the City by the Bay will capture your heart.

Where to Propose in San Francisco

Along the water

The famous "Bay to Breakers" race in San Francisco is so named because it begins on the eastern side of the city along the San Francisco Bay and ends on the western side, at the Pacific Ocean. This means that you have plenty of coastline to choose from when planning where you'll propose.

Along the Pacific, take a walk along Ocean Beach. The cold and fog are staples along the coast, so bundle up and prepare to get cozy in order to keep warm. Ask her to close her eyes for a moment and write, "Will you marry me?" in the sand. Another option is to treat her to a romantic meal at the Cliff House. While she admires the ocean views, catch her gaze and ask for her hand.

On the San Francisco Bay, choose from a number of lovely spots. Watch the adorable sea lions at Pier 39, ride the carousel, or visit the aquarium. Each one makes provides a picturesque backdrop for a proposal. Or make sure you catch the photo opp on film. Walk to the classic Musée Mécanique at Pier 45 and play antique games, then pop into an old-fashioned black-and-white photo booth. Take out a box with the diamond engagement ring in it after the first flash goes off, and capture her excited reaction.

From up on high

The world-famous Top of the Mark sky lounge crowns the InterContinental Mark Hopkins Hotel. From the 19th floor, you can enjoy live music and take in views of some gorgeous San Francisco landmarks, including the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. The Top of the Mark offers a special package for your creative proposal, including a bottle of bubbly and a Top of the Mark chocolate ring box.

Twin Peaks is known for having some of the most magnificent views in all of San Francisco. Take a drive at night and park the car so you can admire the lights of the city.

Coit Tower sits atop Telegraph Hill and is a well-known landmark in San Francisco. Consider climbing the steep Filbert Steps from the bottom of the hill. Upon arriving at the top, out of breath and marveling at the view, drop to one knee and propose. This creative proposal is for active types only!

With a delicious meal

San Francisco is famous for its incredible cuisine, from gourmet Michelin-star restaurants to homey and hearty taquerias. Plan an indulgent day filled with her favorite foods: whether that's oysters at the Ferry Building, a foodie picnic in Dolores Park, dim sum in Chinatown or a tasting menu at a new hip hotspot. Pop the question when you're both basking in the glow of a beautiful meal, and celebrate with a decadent dessert.

Surrounded by San Francisco landmarks

You'll find a variety of romantic spots in Golden Gate Park, including the Queen Wilhelmina Tulip Garden and the Japanese Tea Garden. Walk with your lady hand-in-hand through the Conservatory of Flowers, a greenhouse and botanical garden that features a beautiful collection of plants. As she stops to admire a flower that catches her eye, get down on one knee and present her with a striking diamond engagement ring.

The Palace of Fine Arts is lovely by day and gorgeous by night, when its rotunda lights up the pond by which it sits. It's the perfect place for a romantic stroll that culminates in a proposal.

If your bride-to-be is adventurous, a San Francisco cable car is the perfect place for a creative proposal. Look at the route in advance and select an area of the city that suits her (Nob Hill and Ghirardelli Square are two possibilities). She'll already be giddy from cruising up and down the hills, and she'll be ecstatic when you pop the question. Ask your cable car driver to ring the bell in celebration of your engagement, and don't be surprised if your fellow passengers applaud!

And the Golden Gate Bridge always provides a beautiful view. Jacob and Shelby met in college and started dating after spending a whole year with mutual secret crushes on each other. When they decided to move to San Francisco together, Jacob planned a romantic proposal with the dramatic backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Best Places to Propose in Los Angeles

by Melia Dicker Saturday, 07 May 2016 Proposal

Ready to propose? Los Angeles offers a great many romantic settings, and you're sure to find one that suits the personality of your bride-to-be. Whether she's a nature lover, a true romantic, or a gal who loves a good show, you'll find a spot that she'll remember for the rest of her life.

Places to Propose in Los Angeles

In a picturesque garden

With 134,000 square feet to choose from at the Central Garden at the Getty Center, you're sure to find a spot for your proposal. The description from the garden website says it all:

The walkway traverses a stream that winds through a variety of plants and gradually descends to a plaza where bougainvillea arbors provide scale and a sense of intimacy. Continuing through the plaza, the stream cascades over a stone waterfall or "chadar," into a pool with a floating maze of azaleas. Specialty gardens encircle the pool. All of the foliage and materials of the garden have been selected to accentuate the interplay of light, color, and reflection.

The Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden is full of quaint proposal spots. The Queen Anne Cottage is set on the edge of a lake and is surrounded by magical-looking Blue Gum Trees. Consider presenting her with a diamond engagement ring in front of Mayberg Waterfall, a relaxing destination surrounded by tropical plants.

At a romantic restaurant

Il Cielo Restaurant in Beverly Hills is known as one of the most romantic restaurants in L.A. and often makes "Best Places to Propose" lists. Sit on the garden patio, which glows with tiny white lights. Enjoy decadent Italian food before presenting your sweetheart with a diamond engagement ring after the meal.

Geoffrey's Malibu is a favorite for couples who love an ocean view. Request a table by the rail and breathe in the sea breeze as you dine on fresh seafood and New American cuisine. After dessert and wine, take a walk on the beach below and take a knee on the sand as you pop the question.

At a show or theme park

Hollywood is, of course, world famous for its entertainment industry, and nearby Anaheim is well known for its theme parks. When you're ready to propose to a woman who loves arts and entertainment, you have your pick of venues.

The improv comedy troupe at M.I.'s Westside Comedy Theatre in Santa Monica will actually work your proposal into a sketch if you email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

If your lady loves theme parks, think about proposing at Disneyland, "The Happiest Place on Earth." The Sleeping Beauty Castle makes for a beautiful backdrop, and the fireworks show will make her diamond engagement ring sparkle.

In a stunning vineyard

Do as the celebrities do, and plan a picture-perfect proposal in a romantic vineyard in Malibu, like Michael Yo (actor and co-host of CBS’ The Insider) did for his girlfriend Claire Schreiner, Miss Wyoming 2010. Michael told Claire he was going out of town so she wouldn’t suspect anything, then had a friend invite her to Malibu Family Wines for a “PR event.”

While they toured the winery, Michael waited for the perfect moment to propose. The couple’s French bulldog, Paul, ran up to Claire with an engagement ring attached to his collar (and a Ring Cam to catch the action!), and Michael got down on one knee to pop the question. A Paparazzi Proposals photographer captured each moment and emotion, then shot engagement photos of the couple in the vineyards. Michael had arranged for Claire’s friends and family to fly in from out of state for a surprise engagement party afterward, and the proposal was a hit from start to finish.

Best Places to Propose in Boston

by Melia Dicker Friday, 29 April 2016 Proposal

Boston is one of the country's most beautiful and historic cities. It has a little something for everyone, including colonial architecture, green spaces, cultural destinations, and world-class food. If you're ready to propose, you're likely to find whatever experience you're looking for in Boston.

Where to Propose in Boston

Over a Delicious Meal

Located in Boston's historic North End neighborhood, Mamma Maria is in good company with shops, other wonderful restaurants, and trendy boutiques. From the warm bread served at the table to classic Italian desserts like panna cotta, you'll have a meal to remember at this charming old-world restaurant. Enjoy a traditional Italian dinner of pasta or rabbit with a bottle of Chianti. Once your bride-to-be is contentedly full, make her night even better by presenting her with a diamond engagement ring

At Pigalle, you'll find the freshest French food the local market has to offer, with a few international twists. Chef Marc Orfaly has been honored by Food and Wine Magazine and is a James Beard nominated chef. He won't disappoint you with dishes that are as gorgeous as they are delicious, such as gazpacho with avocado and basil infused oil, or goat cheese croutons. If you're a fan of more traditional French cuisine like escargot and foie gras, you'll find it on the menu, as well. The ambience is candlelit and classy. Pigalle is the kind of upscale restaurant that you'll want to revisit on each anniversary.

At a romantic Boston landmark

Who would guess that the top of the Prudential Tower contained a beauty like Skywalk Observatory? Fifty floors up, the Skywalk Observatory offers breathtaking views of Boston. You'll get a 360-degree bird's eye view of major landmarks that include Fenway Park, Harvard University, and Boston Harbor. Take the audio tour to learn about the history of the city and all it has to offer. Then, as you look out on the Boston skyline with your sweetie, give her the only thing that can compete with the view: a sparkling diamond engagement ring!

The Boston Harbor Hotel at Rowes Wharf not only has a rich history, but it has also received several awards, including the distinction of being one of the "World's Best Places to Stay” on the Condé Nast Traveler Gold List. Boston Harbor is a hub of activity -- you'll have your choice of dining options, public art, and transportation by boat to a variety of destinations. At night, the grand arch at the entrance of the hotel lights up and makes a perfect setting for your proposal.

In a Beautiful Outdoor Setting

Boston Public Garden is one of the most idyllic settings in the city. You'll find everything you're looking for in a beautiful backdrop: flowers and trees, horses and ducklings, and families enjoying picnics and lemonade. It's right out of a painting. Take your lady out pedaling on a Swan Boat and breathe in the fresh air together before you propose. Once you're back on land, you may want to skip your way through the garden and announce your engagement to passersby!

Or follow the example of real-life couple Chase and Sarah and go right next door to Boston Common, an iconic destination and the oldest city park in the country.

Chase took advantage of Sarah’s work trip to Boston to plan the perfect romantic proposal. He worked with Paparazzi Proposals and the management at Prezza Restaurant to surprise Sarah and capture her reaction on camera. Chase proposed to Sarah on the walking bridge in Boston Common, and of course she said “yes”! The couple hopped into a horse-drawn carriage, and Sarah happily announced their engagement to every person who passed by.

The carriage took Chase and Sarah to Prezza, where a special table was waiting for them. It was decorated with black-and-white photos of them and a custom table tent reading “RESERVED for the Newly Engaged Couple,” with their names and the date. To wrap up a wonderful evening, the couple returned to their hotel room to find a bouquet of a dozen red roses waiting for them.

Best Places to Propose in Manhattan

by Kelly Smith Friday, 22 April 2016 Proposal

If you live in New York City, the world is truly your oyster. You have practically any type of cuisine or activity right at your fingertips at all times.

But while a wealth of shopping, dining and entertainment options is exciting, it can also be challenging when you’re trying to make an important decision… like where to plan your perfect romantic proposal. You may have endless possibilities, but what would be most special for you two? What would be a moment you’d love to tell friends about and relive for years to come?

Here are two scenarios, set in arguably the best places to propose in Manhattan, that are sure to create memories to last a lifetime.

Scenario 1

Make a beeline for the Empire State Building, that iconic landmark of the city, at sunset. Yes, yes, some cynics may call it cheesy, but it is the proposal spot perfect for hopeless romantics. And who doesn’t love the Empire State Building’s pivotal role in movie classics, An Affair to Remember and Sleepless in Seattle (if you didn’t melt a little when Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan finally meet at the top, then you’re made of stone). Make sure you buy advance tickets to the top deck, so you can skip the line.

Once at the top, admire the view and wait for the right moment. Get down on one knee, and propose with a gorgeous diamond engagement ring. If you want to continue the movie romance experience, celebrate your engagement afterwards at such Manhattan film classics as Gray’s Papaya (Fools Rush In), Café Lalo (You’ve Got Mail), or Serendipity (Serendipity).

Scenario 2

Visit the tiny French bistro La Bonne Soupe. Order the fixed price meal for two, and enjoy decadent French food in an intimate atmosphere, topped with French wine and rich chocolate mousse. During your meal, reminisce about special times you have shared and what makes you so great together.

When you’ve finished your meal, hold hands on the short stroll to Central Park, one of the best places to propose in Manhattan. Take a horse and carriage ride around the park. As the driver guides the horses along the meandering paths, pill out your diamond engagement ring and ask her to share her life with you.

Or take a cue from real-life couple Aaron and Elle, friends since they were teenagers, who got engaged in Central Park. The two met on a school trip when they were just 13 years old, and after Aaron helped Elle through a difficult time, they became best friends.

Aaron fell in love with Elle’s ability to love completely and wholeheartedly, and they started dating. When he realized he also loved her with all his heart and wanted to marry her, he planned a romantic proposal set on a beautiful day in Central Park. She said “yes” and the next chapter in their love story is just beginning.

Places to Propose in Dallas

by Gillian Burgess Monday, 18 April 2016 Proposal

Dallas has more to offer than just big Texas swagger. It’s an energetic city with a growing arts scene and unique pockets of rich culture, interesting architecture and natural beauty.

Explore Dallas’ lesser-known artsy side, and you’ll find the perfect spot for a romantic proposal. If you’re not yet sure where to propose, these ideas will put you on the right track.

Stroll & Savor

Public ArtWalk Dallas is a free, self-guided tour of art and architecture that spans 3.3 miles throughout the Arts District and downtown Dallas. Download a map, research pieces that interest you, then take a walk with you sweetheart. Propose with a diamond engagement ring in front of your favorite piece of art, whether it’s Fountain Place or the Cathedral Mural.

Art for the Heart

The Dallas Arts District is the largest in the country, with 68 acres and 19 contiguous blocks. Spend an evening exploring its nooks and crannies, stopping by museum exhibitions, churches, restaurants and performance halls. For a more detailed look at Dallas’ architectural history, sign up for a 90-minute walking tour that will guide you through the 1890s until present day. Tours are held at 10 a.m. on the first and third Saturdays of every month at the ceremonial entrance to the Dallas Museum of Art. Grab a cup of coffee or a bite to eat at a café or restaurant after your tour, and pop the question over dessert.

Garden of Delight

Escape the busy city and enter the magical world of Nasher Sculpture Center. The center is composed of a 10,000 indoor gallery space and a 1.5 acre outdoor “roofless museum.” Head to the garden, a peaceful oasis in the middle of the Dallas Arts District, featuring live oaks, weeping willows, stone pathways, pools, fountains and 25 large-scale sculptures. Find a quiet spot ideal for your romantic proposal.

Gondola Romance

Plan a Venetian-inspired proposal – complete with a charming gondola ride – like college sweethearts Phill and Natalie. Phill knew Natalie was the one for him from the very first time they met, and he decided the time to propose was right while they were vacationing in Dallas with their two best friends. Some of their happiest times together had been on the water – on a boat, along a river or by the ocean – so Phill wanted to incorporate that element into his proposal.

He worked with Paparazzi Proposals to set up a gondola ride in Dallas for the two of them (while their friends claimed to be getting food, but were actually watching nearby with confetti ready). In a peaceful, intimate moment, while they were gliding over the water in the gondola, Phill proposed with a diamond engagement ring. Natalie was completely surprised, and the happy couple celebrated with their friends after she said “yes.”

Best Places to Propose in Houston

by Melia Dicker Saturday, 10 October 2015 Proposal

Houston, Texas, may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think "romantic." However, the city is bustling with energy – it may be the perfect place for your creative proposal. Houston holds many natural and cultural gems, some of them just off the beaten path. Once you've narrowed down the selection of affordable engagement rings and picked the one she'll love, start planning a proposal to remember.

Where to Propose in Houston

1. In a natural setting

The Houston Arboretum is full of opportunities to romance your sweetheart. Read through the trail descriptions and plan a day outdoors together. Consider visiting the Carol Tatkon Sensory Garden, in which you can touch and smell the fragrant garden around you. On the eastern edge of the Arboretum, spend time in the meadow where you can listen for bullfrogs and songbirds and watch wildlife in its natural habitat. While you can't picnic in the Arboretum, you can do so next door at Memorial Park. When the moment is right, kneel down on the grass and present your lady with the perfect diamond engagement ring.

Another possibility is proposing in one of the many beautiful areas of Hermann Park, on the spot that overlooks McGovern Lake, or next to the large reflection pool surrounded by oak trees. The peaceful stone paths and bridges of the Japanese Garden are romantic, as well.

Discovery Green is one of the most popular community gathering spaces in Houston. In the heart of the park, walk along the promenade and see 360-degree views of the city skyline. During the summer, you can catch live concerts on the lawn at lunchtime and after hours, or see outdoor movies on a big screen. For a creative proposal, pack a picnic and choose a film that you know she likes. Bring a bag of popcorn with the ring box nestled in the middle. Imagine her surprise when she dips in for a handful of popcorn and discovers a ring!

2. At an upscale restaurant

Esquire has called the cozy Mockingbird Bistro "one of the best new restaurants in America." The head chef describes the seasonally updated menu full of colorful, fresh ingredients as "country-French-meets-American." Try the steak or scallops and order a glass of bubbly to top off the meal.

If you're looking for magnificent views of Houston's skyline, make a dinner reservation at The Spindletop, the only revolving rooftop restaurant in the downtown area. Enjoy complementary valet parking and ride up in the glass elevator. Take in the view as the restaurant slowly spins, watching the compass points on the windows to keep your bearings, and try the champagne pairings with the dessert menu for a decadent experience. Consider this creative proposal: ask your server to place one of our affordable engagement rings in the bottom of your champagne glass, so when you make a toast, the glint of a diamond will catch her eye.

Plan an unforgettable dining experience by reserving the chef's table at Le Mistral, an elegant French restaurant with a decadent menu. At the chef's table, you'll sit in a private room just off the kitchen and receive the personal attention of the chef himself. Ask in advance if you can request any of sweetheart's favorites, then sit back and enjoy course after course of wine-paired deliciousness. Wait for an intimate moment when the two of you are dreamily finishing your desserts, and ask her to be your bride.

3. At a world-class hotel

The concept suites at the elegant Hotel ZaZa set the mood for a romantic getaway: themes include "West Indies" and "Moulin Rouge." Request that chocolate-dipped strawberries and champagne await you when you arrive. After you settle in for the night, share a meaningful toast that you've prepared and present her with the diamond engagement ring of her dreams.

Although the Houstonian Hotel, Club, & Spa is located within two miles from the best attractions of Houston, staying there feels like you're tucked away in the country. Ranked by Travel & Leisure magazine as one of the world's best hotels, the Houstonian is set on 18 wooded acres visible through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the rooms. The Houstonian's fitness club and spa are first-class and offer a wide variety of classes and treatments. If you're up for a splurge, indulge in a spa package that includes a couple's massage and lunch or dinner.

Take advantage of the area’s sunny beaches and open spaces and plan an unforgettable romantic proposal. Here are a few of the best places to propose in Fort Lauderdale.

International Romance

Reserve a quiet table at Casa d’Angelo Ristorante, a sophisticated Italian restaurant with a fresh seasonal menu and an extensive wine list, and propose on a moonlit walk through the canals after dinner. Or opt for the cozy patio at Cafe de Paris for a traditional French meal, and ask the pianist to play your song as you present her with a diamond engagement ring.

Out on the Water

Since Fort Lauderdale has no shortage of waterfront property, heading out on a boat gives you access to some of the best places to propose in the area. Rent kayaks or canoes at Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, a 180-acre space on a barrier island, and take a leisurely tour of the coastal dune lakes. Pack a picnic and pop the question over lunch on the beach.

Or explore Fort Lauderdale’s reputation as the “Venice of America” and take the Jungle Queen Riverboat tour through some of the area’s 300 navigable waterways. Find a quiet moment alone overlooking the water to ask her to marry you.

Or for the true Venetian-inspired experience, book a private tour with the Las Olas Gondola for your romantic proposal. The two of you will enjoy a slow cruise through the canals, and it includes a rose and a personalized engagement message in a bottle to present at just the right moment.

Hollywood Glamour

Just south of Fort Lauderdale lies Hollywood Beach. Walk along the 2.5-mile 1920s boardwalk, and enjoy a seafood dinner at one of the many restaurants along the water. Catch a free outdoor concert or movie, and propose with a diamond engagement ring under the stars.

Best Places to Propose in Long Beach, California

by Gillian Burgess Tuesday, 05 May 2015 Proposal

places-to-propose-long-beachLong Beach is only about 20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles, but it has its own distinct atmosphere and personality. With a population of close to 500,000 (compared to nearly 4 million in L.A.), it combines the thriving culture of a big city with the natural beauty of an upscale beach town.

Long Beach is full of stunning views and seaside scenery that make perfect places to propose. It also boasts lovely weather almost year round, so it’s easy to find just the right moment to pop the question. Shop for beautiful and affordable engagement rings, pick the one she'll love and plan a day to remember.

Romantic Places to Propose

Gondola Getaway

No need to book a ticket for Venice - you can arrange a romantic gondola ride for two right here in Long Beach. Book a private hour-long tour of the Naples canals, timing it so you get to enjoy the sunset. You are allowed to bring your own food and drinks, so bring along a bottle of bubbly and some antipasti to enjoy. It’s supposedly good luck to kiss under every bridge, so uphold the tradition. Under one of them, take out a diamond engagement ring and ask her to marry you. If you’re lucky, you’ll even get one of the singing gondoliers who can serenade the newly engaged lovebirds.

Peaceful Garden

The Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden is located on the CSU Long Beach campus, and it offers a serene oasis within the city. Explore the 1.3 acres of gardens, trees, ponds, statues and bridges. Buy fish food so you can feed the colorful koi swimming in the ponds, then sit down for a picnic in a quiet area. Present her with a ring along with her favorite dessert.

Island Escape

Catalina Island is just an hour away from Long Beach by boat, but it feels a world away from the hustle and bustle of the city, and it’s one of the best places to propose in the area. Take a day trip or stay in one of the small hotels on the island for a weekend getaway. Explore the charming town of Avalon, go snorkeling or rent a golf cart (full-sized cars are restricted on the island) to see more of the wild landscape. Find a spot with a gorgeous view (they are everywhere), get down on one knee with a diamond engagement ring and propose.

Best Places to Propose in Spokane, Washington

by Gillian Burgess Tuesday, 03 March 2015 Proposal

arbor-crest-wine-cellarsSpokane - located in the northeastern part of Washington state - isn’t as well known as metropolitan Seattle, but the city lives up to its slogan: "Near nature. Near perfect."

Spokane is a stone’s throw away from breathtaking natural beauty - the Cascade and Rocky Mountains, 76 lakes and rivers, gorgeous trails for hiking and biking. It is also a city known for its excellent food and wine, so it has great appeal for outdoor enthusiasts and gourmets alike.

If you are planning a romantic proposal in the Spokane area, you have plenty of locations to choose from. Here are a few of our favorite places to propose in Spokane.

Ride a 100-Year-Old Horse

Head to Riverfront Park in downtown Spokane, and buy tickets to take a spin on the exquisite Looff Carrousel, built in 1909. Pick one of the brightly painted, hand-carved horses (or a tiger or giraffe!) to ride with your sweetheart, and have fun trying to catch the brass ring as you go around. Present her with another ring - a sparkling diamond engagement ring - and ask her to be your wife.

Drink in the View of Spokane Falls

Also located in Riverfront Park is the SkyRide Over the Falls attraction - a cable car that offers stunning views of Spokane Falls (the second longest urban falls in the United States). Arrange in advance to get a cable car just for the two of you (perhaps buying tickets for all six seats in the car to guarantee privacy). Take in the view of the falls, City Hall, Huntington Park Natural Area, the Spokane River and the Monroe Street Bridge. Find the right moment when it feels like you’re at the top of the world, and pop the question.

Hit the Centennial Trail

The Centennial Trail is 37.5 miles long and begins at the Washington-Idaho state border. It crosses through downtown Spokane in Riverfront Park, then extends into the countryside in east and west directions. Spend the day doing an outdoor activity you both love on the trail - whether it’s hiking, biking or horseback riding. Take a break for a leisurely picnic lunch, and hide the diamond engagement ring in a box at the bottom of the picnic basket for her to discover.

Toast With a Glass of Award-Winning Wine

Arbor Crest Wine Cellars is one of Washington’s oldest wineries and has earned awards and accolades for its wines from Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast. The winery’s estate sits 450 feet above the Spokane River and offers spectacular panoramic views of the Spokane Valley and downtown. Book a private tour at Arbor Crest, and let them know about your plan, asking about the best places to propose on the estate. After your personalized grounds tour and wine tasting, find a private moment and ask her to marry you with a backdrop of gorgeous vineyards.

Best Places to Propose in Rochester, NY

by Gillian Burgess Tuesday, 02 December 2014 Proposal

best-places-to-propose-in-rochesterRochester, New York, located in the northwestern part of the state, is a beautiful spot to experience the best of all four seasons and appreciate nature, music, wine and culture. If you are starting to shop for affordable wedding bands and looking for the perfect way to pop the question, here are a few of the best places to propose in Rochester.

Proposal Ideas in Rochester

1. Outdoor winter fun

During the snowy season, Ellison Park - a 447-acre woodland area - is a magical place to get cozy as a couple. Go sledding together on one of the two sledding hills, or go ice skating while holding hands. Pack some snacks to bring with you - a thermos of hot chocolate, her favorite cookies or brownies, simple sandwiches. Take a break to eat, and when there is a lull in conversation, take out the diamond engagement ring and ask her to marry you.

2. Romantic music

Book seats for a concert at the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, which hosts events from holiday pops and big band jazz to classical concertos and tango dance performances. Get dressed up for a romantic evening out on the town, and spring for box seats so you have more privacy. Pick a moment when she’s captivated by the show, and get down on one knee with the ring, waiting for her to look over and see you before you pop the question.

3. Under the stars

Head to the Strasenburgh Planetarium and marvel at the awe-inspiring wonders of the universe. Watch a star show or go to a Saturday night laser show, then go for a walk afterward. Tell her how she is the most important person in your world and you want to continue to explore together for the rest of your lives.

4. Cruising on the water

If you’re proposing from early May to mid-October, head out on the water on a Sam Patch cruise. Book one of the special summertime wine cruises, and enjoy a relaxing tour of the Erie Canal and Genesee River. Find a quiet place away from other people to propose, or wait until you’re back on solid ground - eating dinner or dessert at a favorite restaurant.

Best Places to Propose in Birmingham, AL

by Gillian Burgess Tuesday, 04 November 2014 Proposal

places-to-propose-birminghamHave you been thinking about your romantic proposal for some time, plotting the perfect spot and secretly browsing engagement rings and wedding ring sets

Consider Birmingham, Alabama for your location! It is a relaxed and vibrant Southern city, offering a hearty helping of fantastic music, culture, cuisine and green space. It has a temperate climate year round - with an average low of 51 degrees, it is a great city to put on your list if you are looking for places to propose this winter.

Enjoy Live Music

Birmingham has a thriving music scene with a little something for everyone. Start your evening with a live show. If you think a public proposal would make your sweetheart swoon, try asking the venue if you can pop the question on stage. If you think a more private moment is better, wait until after the show and go on a walk or drive to a place to look out over the city at night (Red Mountain Park - more about that below - is a local favorite).

Venues to check out:

  • Moonlight on the Mountain: This intimate venue features acoustic performances from artists in a variety of genres - bluegrass, country, folk, rock. It doesn’t serve food or drinks, so you can pack a picnic of your favorite foods and a bottle of wine to enjoy during the show. It’s cash only at the door (no advance tickets), so get there early and stake out a seat.
  • Iron City Grill: Iron City is a hip music venue, restaurant and bar. Eat a delicious meal made with organic and local ingredients, savor a local craft beer and then see a show from performers such as O.A.R., Neko Case, North Mississippi Allstars or John Butler Trio.
  • Bottletree Cafe: Bottletree Cafe is a fun and funky venue that showcases indie bands, comedians and local musicians and has a great menu (including a killer brunch).

Get Outside

  • One of the most thrilling places to propose in Birmingham is the Red Ore Zip Tour at Red Mountain Park. Ask her to marry you at the top of a treehouse high above the woods, then celebrate by soaring through the air on a zipline.
  • Spend the day at Railroad Park, a 19-acre sprawling green space in the heart of downtown Birmingham. Pack a picnic and propose on a walk along one of the trails, or check out one of the seasonal special events, such as Sunset Cinema in the fall, the Happy Holidays tree-lighting ceremony and carnival or the Relax by the Tracks concert series in the spring.
